The Paris Accord Agreement

The initial commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol has been extended until 2012. This year, at COP18 in Doha, Qatar, delegates agreed to extend the agreement until 2020 (without some industrialized countries that had exited). They also reaffirmed their commitment at COP17 in Durban, South Africa, in 2011 to create by 2015 a new comprehensive climate agreement that would require all major emitters not included in the Kyoto Protocol – such as China, India and the United States – to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The new treaty – what was to become the Paris Agreement – is expected to completely replace the Kyoto Protocol by 2020. However, the Paris Agreement entered into force earlier than planned in November 2016. Others say the U.S. withdrawal is due in part to the Obama administration`s failure to get the Paris Agreement ratified by the U.S. Senate. From 30 November to 11 On 22 December 2015, France received representatives from 196 countries at the United Nations Climate Change (UN) Conference, one of the most important and ambitious global meetings ever organized. The goal was nothing less than a binding and universal agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions to a level that would prevent global temperatures from rising more than 2°C (3.6°F) above the temperature level set before the start of the Industrial Revolution. Both the EU and its Member States are individually responsible for ratifying the Paris Agreement. .
